A new brew pub across from ONEOK Field is set to open by July. The McNellie's Group, which is behind more than a dozen Tulsa restaurants, saw a need and jumped on it with the new brew pub Elgin Park.
For the last 10 months - the Gates Hardware Building in Tulsa's Brady District has been a constant work zone. It still is - but now it's in the last stretch.
Come July, Elliot Nelson will join forces with Marshall Brewery, and the Elgin Park Brew Pub will be open for business.
"Over here are our biggest screens. There will be a bar and communal tables - another great viewing area for game watches," said Elliot Nelson, Elgin Park Brew Pub owner.
Close to 50 televisions will line the walls. Four to six beers by Marshall will be brewed on site, and the menu will focus around New Haven-style pizza.
When customers enter Elgin Park they will have an option to dine in, but Elliot tells me patrons will also have an option for something else - an option McNellie's group hasn't done at any of its locations yet.
"So we think we can serve people a pizza or growler to go, and they can take it back to their apartment or Guthrie Green. We think it provides a nice feature to our carryout pizza - you can get a growler of beer," Nelson said.
A window to the outside will open by hydraulics, and there will be plenty of outdoor seating. After all - a brew pub right across the street from Drillers and Roughnecks games sounds pretty good - but Nelson said they are focusing on what will bring customers downtown in February.
Sports and that 40-seat bar might do the trick, especially with so many new people moving to downtown Tulsa.
"Everything we've done, we have tried to figure out what the next piece of the puzzle is that makes a better place to live," said Elliot Nelson, Elgin Park Brew Pub owner.
"What customers and employees have told us is - a sports bar is one of those things, so were excited to do it."
