Car crashes are the leading cause of death among teens, and the data shows boys are at a higher risk. How parents can help keep their kids safe behind the wheel?
Safe Kids Worldwide said there's been an increase in teen driving deaths in the past decade, but there is a way to help prevent them. A new report by the organization finds parents can help keep their teens out of harm's way by creating a safe driving contract.
All parties involved must agree to drive by the rules.
"When it comes to teens that have a formal agreement with parents we found that they are ten times less likely to drive after they've been drinking, they're four times less likely to drive when they're distracted, that's using their cell phone," said Kate Carr, Safe Kids Worldwide.
Safe Kids Worldwide recommends teens have a minimum of 50 hours of supervised driving under their belt before getting their driver's license.
