McCurtain County authorities are investigating after a deputy and suspect were wounded in a shootout near Broken Bow Friday afternoon.

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife says game warden Captain Mike Virgin and sheriff's deputy Corey Sharrock had gone to a home north of Broken Bow looking for a driver who had reportedly fled a hit and run crash.

At the home, authorities said the game warden and deputy were shot at when Charles Brown got a rifle and fled as they tried to taken him into custody.

Officials say Brown shot the deputy in the pelvic area just below his bullet proof vest and the deputy returned fire hitting Brown in the arm.

After calling for backup, authorities arrested Brown.  He was taken to a nearby hospital.  Deputy Sharrock was flown to a Texarkana hospital.

Both are hospitalized in stable condition.
