Tulsa students handed out milkweed plants Thursday in an effort to help save the Monarch butterfly.

Sustainable Tulsa says the Monarch butterfly is one of the most recognized wildlife species in the U.S.  The group says Oklahoma plays an important role because the butterfly's migration path crosses Oklahoma. The Monarch Initiative of Tulsa has launched a project to make Tulsa a Monarch city.

ORU donated the milkweed plants which were handed out to those who signed a pledge to plant the milkweed in their garden.
