April Fools’ Day pranks normally end in laughter and threats to get even, but one in Tulsa resulted in charity.

It started with an ad on Craigslist but it ended with the victim deciding to turn the tables on his pranksters and put food on the tables of those who truly need it.

Clay Pattison said the calls started pouring in Friday morning with people asking if he was the guy with the Pop-Tarts.

“Someone I didn't know asking about the free Pop-Tarts. I was like, ‘What Pop-Tarts,’” Pattison said.

An April Fools prankster posted on social media that he had a lot of extra Pop-Tarts and was willing to give them away to anyone that was hungry.

Pattison said, “Friends think they are funny, so I knew immediately what it was and I was like ‘I'm so sorry but this is an April Fools prank. I don't have any Pop-Tarts.’”

Then he got the call that changed everything.

A foster parent called telling how the kids in her home could use the food.

“I actually had a foster parent who said, ‘I run a foster home, we could really use the food,’ and I was like, oh my gosh. I feel so bad because I don't actually have these Pop-Tarts,” he said. “So then I got to thinking it snowballed. I was like, you know what, I can do something about this. So I went and bought a bunch of Pop-Tarts and decided to take it to the food bank.”

So far none of his friends have come forward and admitted to putting his phone number on Craigslist.

“Still have no idea who it was, my friends have not come forward. But I challenge them to either match my donation or exceed it preferably, or anyone really, it doesn't need to be that friend,” Pattison said. “I got a joke pulled on me and I flipped it around and feel like I came out on top.”

A $1 donation to the food bank can purchase four meals for a person.

You can make a donation online, through the mail or at the Food Bank.
