A southwest Missouri man has pleaded guilty to abandoning the corpse of an Oklahoma man who authorities believe was killed at a Neosho RV park in June 2015.
KOAM, the CBS affiliate in Joplin reports that 35-year-old Derek Reeves, of Noel, entered the plea Monday in Newton County Circuit Court. He was sentenced to four years in prison.
The unidentified 43-year-old victim's body was found in October wrapped up in a tent and sleeping bag and dumped along a road in McDonald County near Goodman, Missouri.
KOAM says the victim was a homeless man who frequented the Miami, Oklahoma area. He has been identified by authorities, but his name is being withheld until next of kin are tracked down.
Neosho Police Chief David Kennedy says Reeves led them to the corpse in October. Authorities say the body was so badly decomposed that the medical examiner was unable to determine a cause of death.
A second suspect, 38-year-old Brandy House, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas is also charged with abandonment of a corpse. She remains in custody in Arkansas in connection with another crime.
