Teenage Sister, Two Friends Charged In Death Of Miami Man

Ottawa County prosecutors filed first-degree murder charges against three people in the death of a man in January, including the victim's teenage sister.

Prosecutors charged 39-year-old Brandon Lee Jones of Picher, 34-year-old John Kevin Rather of Miami and 17-year-old Kylie Friend also of Miami with first-degree murder as well as conjoint robbery and conspiracy to commit conjoint robbery.

They say Jones and Rather killed Caleb Friend on January 19, 2016. Caleb was Kylie's older brother.

According to court documents, Kylie Friend was angry at her brother because he had recently kicked her out of his house. During a conversation in December 2015, she joked to Rather and Jones that they should rob her brother of his money and drugs.

On the night of January 19, 2016, Jones and Rather went over to Caleb Friend's house to commit the robbery, according to court documents. Prosecutors say Rather was struggling with Caleb Friend when Jones tried to pistol whip Friend and the gun went off, shooting Friend in the head. Prosecutors say the trio got only $16 from him.

Law enforcement arrested Brandon Jones and Kylie Friend on Monday. They're still looking for John Kevin Rather.
