Check out the "Floating Hanger."
A 9-foot tall, 8-foot wide sculpture was dedicated on Thursday as one of the enhancements at the Route 66 West Gateway Plaza.
It shows oil field equipment with mosaic tiles that represent different facets of west Tulsa history.
The Tulsa Arts Commission requested proposals from artists for the $50,000 project - and it chose Nevada artist Eileen Gay.
"Everything has its own message, and that's part of the challenge - choosing the materials that speak to the site," Gay said. "Because the artwork isn't for me. It's for the people in the area."
A project involving Route 66 road signs will bid out later this year.
