Anderson Public Schools in Osage County is closed Wednesday because of a gas leak.
School superintendent Brett Banker says during a basketball game at the school Tuesday night they smelled natural gas. He says ONG was called and they found a leak in a pipe near the playground outside. Crews shut off the gas.
Banker says the lack of natural gas impacts the school's kitchen which is used to make breakfast and lunch, so classes were canceled Wednesday while the gas line can be repaired.
Officials said they are still working and will cancel classes Thursday, and Spring Break starts Friday. But, because they haven't used any snow days this year, this will not make the year longer.
The school district is located northwest of Sand Springs, just south of Shell Lake and has 285 students.
Anderson Public Schools is a kindergarten through 6th grade district.
