Pittsburg County deputies are investigating a shooting that sent an elderly man to a Tulsa hospital Monday afternoon with a gunshot wound to the head.

Sheriff Joel Kerns says Marion James Fassino was driving on Seven Devils Road east of McAlester at about 4:15 p.m. when a .22-caliber bullet came through the passenger side of his vehicle and struck the 72-year-old man in the head.

The victim was first taken to the McAlester hospital then flown by helicopter to Tulsa. The sheriff's office is investigating the shooting as accidental and have talked to a person of interest.

Authorities have not released the name of the person of interest.
