Tulsa police are now investigating the body found near Booker T. Washington High School Tuesday morning as a homicide.
Initially, officers said there was no sign of trauma to the body, but when the medical examiner arrived they discovered the victim had been shot.
The body was found between the high school and the Towne Square Apartments, a housing complex near Apache and North Peoria. When first responders arrived, they declared the 26-year-old victim dead.
Tulsa Public Schools campus police called in the discovery after students reported seeing an unresponsive man, according to Tulsa Police Sergeant C.J. Hardaway. The body was not on school property, according to an administrative spokesperson.
According to Tulsa Police sergeant, Dave Walker, just before 6:00 Monday evening, police responded to the same complex in reference to a suicidal suspect. First responders said the victim told them he was fine and was released.
Walker said it's believed around 11 p.m. Monday there was an altercation with at least two unknown suspects in the southwest corner of Towne Square near Booker T.
The victim has not been identified.
Walker said there is not a lot of information and ask anyone that may have information to call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS, the homicide tip line at 918-798-8477 or email homicide@cityoftulsa.org.
