Friends Feel 'Justice Is On Track' In Ted's Hamburgers Murder

Records show the man arrested for murdering the owner of Ted's Hamburgers confessed to Tulsa police on Wednesday and told detectives it was just supposed to be a robbery.

TPD still is still looking for two more suspects in the death of Jim Coulson.

Ted's Hamburgers was so well known in West Tulsa that everyone called owner Jim Coulson “Mr. Ted.” He was known for being generous to anyone who needed help and taking good care of his employees. His friends are relieved to see someone has been arrested.

"Sooner or later, they catch these guys; they don't get away with it,” friend Joe Davis said. “The whole community is somewhat relieved and feel justice is on track."

Davis went fishing with Coulson for years and said he was a true icon in Tulsa, known and loved by so many.

Davis said as fishing season approaches, he feels Coulson's loss even more, and he appreciates how Tulsa police have stayed after the case.

"He's not there and you see that boat,” Davis said. “It comes and goes but he'll always be part of the community."

Detectives arrested Alcon Sanders for the murder. They say Sanders and at least two others, just wanted some quick cash back in August but things didn't go as planned.

They say the fact that Coulson and his restaurant were so well known played into the killers' hands.

"Always showed up at the this time, had a certain amount of money to open the register and everybody knew that and even though he was a great guy and gave to the community, there are some people who will take it from you,” TPD Homicide Sgt. Dave Walker said. “And it happened to him."

Police questioned a second person on Wednesday. They said they told him he has a choice to make.

"He's looking at two sides, law enforcement on this side and the bad guys on this side, and sooner or later he's gonna have to make a decision and he needs to come to our side and start leading his life right," Walker said.

Police hope the community will keep giving them information that leads to others being charged. So do Coulson's friends.

"Jim was just a good guy,” Davis said. “They don't make them that way anymore."

Jim's friends held a fishing tournament to raise reward money and they're willing to do that again and more, anything that gets people to come forward with key information, they said.
