After three weeks at the veterinary clinic after a possible run-in with a coyote, a local Boston terrier is about ready to go home.
Dr. Dan Denham said J.J., the 10-year-old Boston terrier, is getting around pretty well.
“He's a lucky little fella, that he made it through this," he said.
Debbie Carson and her husband adopted J.J. from the Boston terrier rescue group back in September - older dogs are harder to find homes for.
"We felt sorry for him, so we adopted him. He's been great," Carson said.
Three weeks ago, J.J. was in the back yard and something came over the fence and grabbed him.
Debbie's son Nick found him by the back door.
They scooped him up and took him to the emergency clinic. They said it was a mess.
"He was chewed up by some kind of animal," Denham said.
There was an injury to each of J.J.'s legs - the left front leg was the worst.
Denham said, "We felt the danger of infection was greater than the danger of taking the leg off."
So they took the leg off, but things got better from there.
Debbie's son-in-law, Josh Hoffer, set up a GoFundMe page to help with all the expenses.
J.J. has been at the clinic for three weeks to make sure the infections and the wounds had healed.
Denham said, in his experience, smaller dogs adapt really well to life on three legs.
And J.J. will finally get to go home on Friday.
