Muskogee County jail escapee Paul Newberry has been arrested in Texas.
The Muskogee County Sheriff's Office said Newberry was taken into custody in Jarrell, Texas Tuesday morning.
Chief Deputy Brandon Caster told News On 6 Newberry stole a semi in Muskogee on Monday. The truck driver told deputies he checked into a hotel Monday night and when he got up at 8:30 Tuesday morning his truck was gone.
The truck had a GPS device and deputies tracked the truck to Jarrell, Texas. Muskogee County Sheriff Charles Pearson contacted Texas law enforcement who quickly found the truck.
The sheriff said Newberry was asleep in the sleeper but when he saw police he tried to drive away. The officers boxed him in and he surrendered, telling them he was wanted in Oklahoma, according to the sheriff.
Paul Newberry, 24, escaped with another inmate Sunday night. The other inmate, Raymond Noriega, was hurt during the escape and was captured shortly afterward.
Newberry is charged in the murder of Cherokee County rancher Charley Kirk, 88, during a July burglary.
