The Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief chainsaw team left Claremore at 7 a.m. on Wednesday to lend a hand to those impacted by the ice storm in western Oklahoma over Thanksgiving weekend.

The storm caused tens of thousands of power outages and a lot of damage.

Large trees covered in ice landed on cars, homes and roads, which made a mess.

There still are a lot of downed trees in Yukon. The team will use their chainsaws to cut up the trees so they can be cleared away.

"We'll start with the highest priority and help the widows, single mothers, elderly first,” team leader Danny Cotner said. “Then just anybody who has tree damage, we'll come in and clear their yards for them.”

The crew will be working with other crews throughout the week in Yukon and return to Claremore on Saturday night.
