More than 12,500 runners laced up their shoes to complete the full and half marathon courses at the 10th annual Route 66 Marathon. Runners from all over the world came to Tulsa for the event.
It was cold outside, but runners still got ready for the start at Seventh and Main. They bolted through the confetti cannons down Main and through the heart of Tulsa.
The 26-mile course weaved through some of Tulsa's iconic and historic neighborhoods. That included Woodward Park and Utica Square.
Adam Lazrus of Maryland trucked through the marathon course and is this year's winner.
"I didn't expect to be out in front. I didn't realize it until about halfway through, and I had the whole police escort," he said.
And of course, there was a finish line proposal. The boyfriend carried the ring with him the entire race before popping the question.
Race organizers were happy about the turnout and another successful year.
"We really want to thank everybody in Tulsa: the volunteers, the spectators, everybody for supporting our race, supporting these runners as they reach their goals and get to the finish line here in Tulsa," said Chris Lieberman, Route 66 race director. "We can't thank you enough."
News On 6 had a live stream of the finish line all day Saturday.
Registration for next year's marathon opens up as this one ends, so maybe your New Year's resolution can be training for it.
