Editor's note: News On 6 is not identifying the boy anymore because he's in foster care.
Jenks Police located a missing 11-year-old boy who had disappeared in the afternoon from Jenks West Intermediate School.
Police said the boy was found near Main Street and Highway 75 at about 11 p.m.
Searchers spread out across Jenks and used the Education Service Center at 211 East A Street as the command center in the effort to locate him.
Osage SkyNews 6 HD flew overhead early on in the search when authorities were looking at the nearby fields and neighborhoods around the school in the 200 block of East B Street.
There were a number of law enforcement agencies and search dogs looking for the boy, along with people from the community - parents, teachers and many others.
More than 150 volunteers joined in on the search for the missing 11-year-old; many were the same age as the boy, and were out looking for him with their parents.
Police said surveillance video showed him running away from the school around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon.
Jenks Chief of Police Cameron Arthur said the boy was transitioning from his biological parents to foster care and was upset, which is likely why he took off.
"I have a little girl that goes to this school and I would be very scared if it was her, so I wanted to come out and do what I could," said volunteer Andrea Bennett.
Police said the boy's biological parents live in north Tulsa, so they also checked there.
Jenks Public Schools said the boy was found safe just before 11 p.m. and it thanked all the volunteers, police officers and school staff who helped with the search.
