Powerful Earthquake Felt In Green Country

Another significant earthquake made itself felt in Green Country just before 11 a.m. The shake rattled News On 6 for several seconds.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake was recorded at 10:57 a.m. Its epicenter was located four miles west of Langston, five miles northeast of Guthrie, 19 miles southwest of Stillwater, and 20 miles north, northeast of Edmond.

It was about three miles deep

USGS has reports of people feeling the powerful trembler from Fayetteville (182 miles) to Kansas City (265 miles). Tulsa is about 85 miles east of the epicenter.

A smaller earthquake, with a 3.4 magnitude, was recorded at 11:35 a.m. about 5 miles northeast of Langston. The Oklahoma Geological Survey has said it is likely that many recent earthquakes in the state have been triggered by the injection of wastewater from oil and natural gas drilling operations.
