A Sand Springs woman is in jail but escaped injury after hitting the back of a parked semi truck on westbound Highway 64 near 81st West Avenue. Chrisha Jestique Newberry was arrested on a complaint of driving under the influence, first offense.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol said when they got to the wreck around 1:43 a.m., a witness told them she'd seen the Jeep weaving on the highway before it hit the back of the semi that was parked on the shoulder.
The Jeep had severe damage, but Newberry wasn't injured and refused treatment, according to troopers at the scene.
The arresting trooper said he smelled an "odor of intoxicating beverage," and Newberry told him she'd had two drinks. An arrest report states she had trouble balancing and couldn't pass a field sobriety test.
The highway was blocked for about an hour while crews cleaned the scene and debris that was scattered all along the highway. One of the passenger doors of the Jeep was impaled on the semi.
Newberry, 23, was booked into Tulsa County Jail early Saturday.
