Homicide Sergeant David Walker said people in two vehicles - a white Chevrolet Impala and gray Chevrolet Camaro - met in the parking lot of the convenience store. Two of the people in each car exchange positions, getting into the other vehicle, Walker said in a news release. Both cars started to leave the parking lot.
Instead of leaving, however, both cars stopped again in the lot. Armstrong and another man were walking on Yale and approached the Impala, the release states. Both men got in the car very briefly and then got back out.
The driver of the Camaro got out of that car and shot Armstrong, according to police. A passenger in the Impala then got into the Camaro which drove off. The driver of the Impala got out and walked away, leaving that car in the QT lot.
The man who was walking with Armstrong ran south from the murder scene, Walker said.
Jail records show Jones is being held for a complaint of first-degree murder. Police say they are still searching for Desmond Terrell Jackson, 24, Jonathan Jerome Sweet, 23, and Homersell Marvin Thomas, 22.
