Wednesday is National Dog Day, so we wanted to talk to some experts and dogs and what goes into naming them.

At the Animal Rescue Foundation's adoption facility at LaFortune Park, lots of dogs available for adoption and each one has a name.

Among other things at ARF, Claire Glossop is responsible for naming most all the dogs that come into their system.

"Sometimes we look at what they look like, what breed they are or whether they have a certain feature like big ears or teeth that stick out," she explained.

Sometimes she just says names to see how the dog responds to it.

Glossop’s been at it for about five years and said she has pages of names she’s already used on the nearly 2,500 animals she’s named.

As for Tulsa dog’s names, a website called Nextdoor.com sent a list of Tulsa's top ten dog names. The list was gleaned from info provided by neighbors who frequent Nextdoor.com.

According to them, Bella is the number one name given to dogs. Max, Lucy, Sadie, Daisy, Molly, Buddy, Sophie, Maggie and Bailey are also very common and popular names.

"That's potential names I haven't used yet. I have a boy’s page, and a girl’s page and a theme page in case we get litters of puppies," Glossop said.

Names can come from everywhere, she said - movies, TV, newspaper – and she might be able to help you find the perfect name for your next pet.
