Jenks Police Chief Injured After Motorcycle Wreck

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Jenks' Police Chief, Cameron Arthur, was involved in a motorcycle crash early Monday on the Creek Turnpike close to mile marker 2 near Sapulpa.

OHP said it received a call about a motorcycle wreck at 12:31 a.m. and a trooper showed up to the scene about 50 minutes later. It said Arthur was not badly injured and his motorcycle didn't appear to be damaged.

Arthur said another vehicle came into his lane, which is why he swerved into the ditch to avoid a collision. He said he flipped a few times before landing.

The chief said the other driver didn't stop and his phone smashed and was unable to make outgoing calls. He said the wreck happened around 11:30 p.m. and that he spent hours trying to flag down someone for help.

OHP public information officer Dwight Durant said a bystander reported the accident.

Arthur said a friend called his phone and he was able to answer. He said she came from Oklahoma City and arrived before OHP to try and help him.

OHP said Arthur was not intoxicated. The agency said the trooper had a lengthy conversation with Arthur in the trooper's patrol car. He reported he did not smell an odor of alcohol on Arthur.

Arthur said he rarely ever drinks and would never drink and drive.

He said it was a split-second decision to swerve in the grass to avoid the vehicle and credits his helmet for saving his life.

St. John confirmed Arthur was treated there Monday morning and released.

In a statement, the City of Jenks said, "The City of Jenks is aware of a motorcycle accident involving the City of Jenks Chief of Police Cameron Arthur. The accident occurred outside of our jurisdiction and while Chief Arthur was not on duty. Chief Arthur was treated and released and is recovering from his injuries. We have no further details at this time."
