Troopers: DUI Crash Kills Eufaula Man

An Oklahoma man is dead after a crash troopers said was caused by drinking and driving. The man was a passenger in a pickup that hit a tree Monday afternoon on Sandy Bass Bay Road in McIntosh County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Investigators said James Darrel Bruner of Eufaula was behind the wheel of a Dodge Ram pickup that left the county road and struck a tree about a mile south of Texanna Road. Passenger James Lee Reece Jr., also of Eufaula, was thrown from the truck and killed. He was 44.

Bruner, 53, was flown to a Tulsa hospital in guarded condition with leg injuries, a collision report states. 

A trooper's report sates Bruner was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Neither man was wearing a seat belt, the report states.
