A 55-year-old man is dead after he was hit by a car on Highway 66 near Foyil early Thursday according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Troopers said they got a call from a driver at about 4 a.m. who said he had hit a man walking in the westbound lanes in Rogers County. The driver said initially he thought he had hit a deer, but after he stopped he found a man lying on the side of the road.

The impact damaged the 2010 Ford sedan.

The OHP says the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers closed the westbound lanes of 66 north of Foyil for about two hours while they investigated the crash.

The state Medical Examiner's Office took the body to Tulsa.

The OHP says the driver, Zachary Goodman, 20 was not injured but was shaken up.
