A Mannford man charged in Creek County with assault and battery on a police officer is in jail in Nebraska.

Ronald Phillippe, 22, was charged in Bristow in January 2015. After Phillippe failed to appear at a hearing in April, a Creek County judge issued a warrant for his arrest.

On Thursday, June 12, a deputy in Beatrice, Nebraska spotted a man and woman walking along a highway. KWBE, a radio station in Beatrice, Nebraska reports the deputy recognized Phillippe from a bulletin.

The deputy knew that law enforcement in a neighboring county had pursued a Chevy pickup with Oklahoma plates, but had terminated that pursuit.

When he questioned the pair, they gave him false names, the deputy said. He eventually confirmed their identities and arrested Phillippe on the fugitive warrant. He also arrested the woman, Denise Sunday, on an outstanding warrant and providing false information.

Ronald Phillippe told the deputy the pickup had run out of gas. Deputies confirmed found it about seven miles north of Beatrice and confirmed it was stolen out of Oklahoma.

The deputy booked Phillippe into the Gage County jail on the Oklahoma warrant. He's scheduled to appear in court in July.
