A unit of National Guardsmen from Tulsa are deploying to the Middle East. A farewell ceremony for the 834th Aviation Support Battalion in underway in Tulsa at the Army Aviation Support Facility.
The unit will deploy for about 10 months with more than 25 Soldiers and is expected to return to Oklahoma by June 2016.
The 834th will participate in several weeks of post-mobilization training at Fort Hood, Texas, before deploying to Kuwait. While in Kuwait, they will conduct rotary-wing aviation maintenance on the UH-60 Blackhawk and several other types of aircraft.
The 834th maintains a fleet of Blackhawks at their home station in Tulsa.
