Saturday is the start of a Free Fishing Weekend in Oklahoma. That means you don't need a fishing license for this weekend only.
Plus, Saturday, we have a little extra incentive to make it a fun family event. Our expert fisherman Dick Faurot has a preview of Take Me Fishing Day.
Veteran's Park in Jenks is just one of three locations that will be part of the Take Me Fishing Day, and according to John Kushnerick from Zebco, there will be enough fish to go around.
Well, “We've got over 10,000 fish that we're stocking in Jenks Veterans Park, LaFortune Park and in Mohawk Park. And you can see, there's a lot of catfish in there. We've got over two-tons of catfish that we have,” he said.
He said some of the fish they put in are tagged and anyone that catches one will get a little something extra.
“Like this one, that one has a green tag on it. Anybody that catches a fish tomorrow, a tagged fish, between 7:00 a.m. and noon, will get a prize,” Kushnerick said.
And Dick Faurot will be making the rounds Saturday. He'll be at Mohawk from 7:00 a.m. until 8:30, Veteran's Park in Jenks from 9:00 until 10:30 and LaFortune Park from about 10:45 to noon.
Zebco will be giving away hats and all kinds of stuff for the first 200 kids 14 and under at each location, along with prizes for tagged fish.
