High water has stopped all barge traffic on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System.

The system runs from the Port of Catoosa to the Mississippi River.

Port director Bob Portiss says no barges are moving in or out of the Port of Catoosa because of swift river currents. However, he says freight is still moving, its just by truck or rail.

Portiss doesn't see a significant financial impact so far because of this stoppage and expects barges to begin moving again next week.

The last time increased river flows stopped barge river traffic at the Port of Catoosa was in 2011 and before that 1986.
