Authorities have recovered the body of a Walters teen who disappeared while kayaking in swift water Friday afternoon south of Lawton in Cotton County.

His  name has not been released.

The 15-year-old boy was kayaking with five other juveniles on West Cache Creek about a mile south of State Highway 5, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol's marine division.

Troopers say the boy's kayak overturned just before 3 p.m. and began taking on water. The boy and one of his friends tried to put the kayak on top of a canoe which also started sinking.

The five friends floated around the bend to shore as the victim tried to hold the canoe up out of the water, a news release states. They lost sight of him and then could not find the boy or the canoe.

Authorities say he was using a personal flotation device.

Dispatch says Highway 5-A at the Cache Creek Bridge was closed for the recovery efforts. Several agencies have been involved in the search including the Cotton County Sheriff's Department, Walters Fire, Lawton Fire Department, Comanche County Memorial Ambulance and Jefferson County 20-Man Task Force.

Lawton Fire Rescue recovered the body Saturday morning.
