Hours after Tulsa Police released the name of a woman that was run over at Heller Park and killed in a car crash they said the case is now being investigated as a homicide.

Tulsa Police Sergeant Dave Walker said there are enough unusual circumstances to investigate the death of 27-year-old Shamara Girod.

Walker said just after midnight Monday, police were received several calls of shots being fired at Heller Park between the 5400 and 5800 blocks of South Wheeling.

Minutes later, Walker said police were then called to an injury crash in the 6100 block of South Lewis where crews found Girod dead inside the vehicle.

Police were able to link the crash to the shots fired at Heller Park where they learned Girod was run over after an altercation, Walker said.

He said their investigation is focusing on a disagreement with another person at another location. Walker said Girod and the other person garret to meet at Heller Park to fight.

Walker said police have interviewed several witnesses and/or suspects in the case but have not made any arrests.

He said anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.
