OKC Southeast point guard DaShawn McDowell decided to decommit from the University of Tulsa Tuesday evening.
The 2016 prospect made his decision public via Twitter with the following statement: "I have DECOMMITTED from Tulsa University."
The 6'5” point guard also stated that his recruitment is now open to all.
McDowell made his commit to the Golden Hurricane back in July. When he was asked why he decided on Tulsa, his answer was “Frank Haith.”
“The coaching staff is amazing,” McDowell said. “They recruited me heavy, which I liked a lot. It was all about family and helping me more than just basketball.”
Although Haith did not recruit the baller, he quickly became acquainted with him after accepting the coaching job at TU.
As just a sophomore, McDowell averaged 29 points, eight assists and six rebounds. He was Tulsa's first 2016 recruit, and is widely considered one of the top prospects in the state.
