Oral Roberts senior Vicky McIntyre was honored for her record breaking season by being named Summit League Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year on Thursday.
McIntyre was tabbed as both Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year after setting the Summit League and ORU record for rebounds in a single-season and in a single-game. The senior led not only the conference but the NCAA in rebounding and blocks most of the year averaging 15.5 rpg and 4.5 bpg.
She pulled down 449 rebounds during the regular season to shatter both the league and school single-season mark. Against Austin Peay, McIntyre pulled down 27 rebounds to break the ORU, Summit League and Reed Green Coliseum record for rebounds in a single-game while also adding 22 points in the win.
The Omaha native also recorded the first triple-double at ORU since 1995 as she also set a school record with 10 blocks and added 14 points and 16 boards.
McIntyre was also the only Golden Eagle named to the All-League First Team as she also earned a spot on the All-Newcomer Team.
Western Illinois' Ashley Luke was tabbed as the Player of the Year, while Mikale Rogers of IUPUI earned Sixth Woman of the Year honors. South Dakota's Amy Williams was named Summit League Coach of the Year after the Coyotes claimed the regular season title last weekend and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.
The Golden Eagles open the 2015 Summit League Championships Sunday against North Dakota State at 2:30 p.m. All quarterfinal and semifinal games will be made available on ESPN3 and the Watch ESPN App with Tuesday's title game being broadcast live on ESPNU.
