Oral Roberts University senior first baseman Anthony Sequeira became the first ORU position player since 2012 to be named a Summit League Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Sequeira was named the Co-Player of the Week with outfielder Brandon Soat of IPFW. He became the second Golden Eagle in as many weeks to earn a league honor after Kyler Stout was named the Pitcher of the Week after the opening weekend.
Last week against SIU Edwardsville, Sequeira batted .700 at the plate with seven hits, seven RBI, six runs scored and walked three times. The Petaluma, California, native also recorded a pair of doubles in the series against the Cougars, and added his first career home run in game two.
Sequeira leads the league with a .650 batting average and four doubles, is second in the league with nine RBI and third with eight runs scored.
ORU swept the series against SIUE, moving to 5-1 on the season, its best start since 2009. The Golden Eagles return to action for their first road contest Friday at Louisiana Tech at 6 p.m.
