Snow Chances Again Today

Another mid-level wave will slide across north TX and southern OK today providing for more snow across the state.   Winter weather advisory will remain for southern OK, mainly near and south of the I-40 corridor until this wave clears the area later tonight.   Some locations within the advisory area may pick up an additional 1 to 2 inches of snow.   The Tulsa metro will be on the “northern fringe" of this wave, but should receive some light snow showers or flurries at times by midday to afternoon.   A dusting may occur in a few spots in or around the metro.   Temperatures will remain cold with daytime highs in the 20s. North winds will remain around 10 to 20 mph creating wind chill values this morning into the single digits. Wind chill readings this afternoon may remain the mid to upper teens.

The upper air pattern has transitioned to a quasi-split flow with the northern stream diving down across the Midwest and the southern stream split ejecting from the desert southwest.    A somewhat “cut-off" low is positioned across California and Nevada today, and will slowly eject eastward over the next few days.   A lead wave rotates around and ahead of this feature today allowing for the new precipitation production across the southern plains.   Another system may arrive late in the week with a major winter storm.   We're not exactly sure about this solution.   The data remains somewhat consistent with bringing another feature into the area late next week, but the timing and strength are of question.   At this point, we're keeping some late week snow pops in the forecast for Friday and Saturday, but they're basically “place holders" until we have better confidence on the pattern and forecast.   The short term has much higher confidence.

After today's wave exits the area this afternoon, the precip will quickly end from the west to east.   Temperatures tomorrow morning will start around 20 and end in the lower to mid-40s with partly cloudy conditions.   A minor warm-up is expected into Wednesday with morning lows in the 20s and afternoon highs Wednesday moving into the upper 40s.    Another cold front will move across the area Wednesday afternoon or evening bringing another round of colder air back to the state through the end of the week.   Thursday and Friday will feature lows in the 20s and highs just off the freezing mark across northern OK.   A weak disturbance Thursday may produce some light snow showers across southern Kansas and northeastern OK with a dusting possible.    The low confidence portion of the forecast kicks in Friday into Saturday.    We'll keep low chances for snow Friday into Saturday morning with cold air remaining.   Some warmer air is likely to follow Sunday.
