An SUV driver survived a close call Tuesday night when his vehicle slid off an east Tulsa highway entrance ramp into a pond.
The crash happened at the ramp from Highway 169 onto eastbound Broken Arrow Expressway just before 11 p.m.
They said the SUV went over a barrier and dropped 20 feet into the pond landing on its wheels. The driver told police he lost control on a patch of ice. Officers said the man got out of the SUV and climbed up an embankment.
A woman driving behind the SUV witnessed the crash and called 911. She also stopped and helped the man up the embankment and kept him warm in her car before emergency personnel arrived at the scene.
Police said EMSA took the driver to the hospital to be checked out for back and neck pain.
A tow truck lifted the SUV out of the pond.
