Feds Approve Oklahoma Request To Stop Double Testing In Math

The U.S. Department of Education approved a request Tuesday to stop requiring Oklahoma middle school students testing in Algebra I, Algebra II or Geometry to also take the grade-level math assessment.

The approval came at the request of the Oklahoma State Department of Education.

In a news release, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister said the decision, which applies to this school year, eliminates double-testing for some students in the subject of mathematics.

Last week, Hofmeister announced the elimination of field testing from this year's state writing assessments. She said the education department eliminated the tests to free up time for more classroom instruction.
