Sand Springs police say they are investigating a house fire as first-degree arson. They had been to the home earlier Sunday evening for a domestic disturbance.

Sand Springs House Fire Investigated As Arson

Sand Springs Police say they're investigating a house fire that hurt two people as first-degree arson.

They say the 911 call about a fire at the home was the second 911 call of the day at that house.

Police were first called Sunday night to investigate a domestic disturbance. They were called again a few hours later and found the house in the 3000 block of Bahama Drive on fire.

Outside, the damage doesn't look nearly as bad as the inside.

Everything is black inside the home; the flames spread from the first floor all the way to the second floor ceiling. Neighbors say the fire started around 9:30 Sunday night and the flames poured out of the front and roof.

People who live next door said they heard the woman screaming for help and saying a man had set the home on fire.

"The first thing we saw was flames coming from the roof," said neighbor Clay Fink, who took a photo of flames shooting out from the roof and front door of the home.

Neighbors say the woman had been in the shower and broke a window to get out. She ran to a neighbor's home naked and was given a blanket.

"We took off running for her after she screamed a number of times," one of the boys said.

"She was screaming for help and kept saying someone was pouring gasoline on her house and setting it on fire."

There was also a man lying on the front porch who was burned; two teenage boys pulled him off the porch out of harm's way.

"Everyone was saying 'help us help us, we need to get him off the porch,'" said one of the teenage rescuers.

"So me and my friend went up and picked him up and took him to the mailbox."

"Pretty scary but pretty heroic for a couple of young teenage boys," said neighbor Clay Fink.

As the couple waited for emergency responders, the wife stood in Fink's driveway and watched her home burn.

"Upset, crying, wrapped up in a blanket," he said.

The couple's dog got out of the home safely; it's now with a family member.

The man and woman were taken to the hospital, but police haven't been able to give us an update on how they are doing.

Assistant Chief of Police Mike Carter said the domestic disturbance call came in just before 7 p.m. Officers said the residents were having an argument, but because there was no physical assault, no one was arrested.

Neither the husband or wife wanted to leave the home, but just a few hours later, the fire forced them out.
