Muskogee County authorities investigated a double murder and suicide that happened Saturday, before turning the investigation over to the medical examiners office.
Muskogee County Sheriff Charles Pearson says the initial investigation indicated Beckie Smith had fatally shot and killed her two adult sons, Garrett and Levi Brown, while they slept Saturday morning in a residence in the rural part of Muskogee County, North of Highway 64, and West of the Muskogee Turnpike.
Family members said EMS crews arrived to the home around 8:30 a.m.
Pearson says Smith then apparently left a suicide note and killed herself.
The family says the two men were both in their 20s; Garrett was a student, and Levi had just returned home after serving in Afghanistan.
