An across-the-board pay raise for state troopers is among several new state laws taking effect on New Year's Day.
The pay raises for Oklahoma Highway Patrol officers average between 14 and 20 percent.
It will cost the state about an additional $8.5 million a year.
Since the tax year coincides with the calendar year, most of the other new laws taking effect on January 1 deal with taxes.
