Some Creek County kids got to "Shop With A Deputy" over the weekend. It was the first time for the event, but probably won't be the last.
Detective Chrissie Underwood said eight children were chosen from four area schools. They and their families met with deputies and other Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 213 members for a full holiday dinner in Sapulpa. The children were each given a $200 gift card from the lodge and another $20 from the Sapulpa Walmart.
"The kids were told they were welcome to spend the money as they wished, whether on themselves or others," Underwood said.
After picking out a deputy to take on the shopping spree, off they went in a line of squad cars to the local Walmart.
"The deputies helped the kids keep track of their spending, and after a flurry of holiday shopping, everyone went back to the lodge to begin the wrapping process," Underwood said.
The FOP Lodge members wish to than Reasor's in Sapulpa, Phelp's in Drumright and Ballard's in Oilton for their grocery donations that fed the families. Extra food was taken to the Youth Services of Creek County shelter for kids in residence.
