It's Jenks versus Union week, or Union versus Jenks week depending on which side you're on. Everyone had something good to say about the other.
Jenks Head Coach Allan Trimble said, "Union, man, if you watch them on field they've been very, very good in all phases of the game."
"You can tell they've corrected a lot of mistakes. I think they understand their identity," stated Union Head Coach Kirk Fridrich.
They've had two weeks to prepare for each other.
Trimble stated, "You can almost put in a new offense in two weeks, so we'll get to see some things we haven't see in a while."
"This week we've gone full circle because we had a game plan, and then you start to erase some plays, and then you come right back to them," said Fridrich.
Both teams feel they've improved since the backyard brawl during week two.
"We've improved overall as a defense, playing more consistent, [and the] offensive line is getting better," stated Trimble.
Trojans' quarterback Cooper Nunley said, "Everyone is starting to figure themselves out, and what they do best, and what they don't do best, and starting to understand what we do with our offense."
Redskins wide receiver Zach Fisher stated, "It's the little things, you know, receivers are lining up better, mesh point with handing the ball off is better. Defense is getting calls quicker and getting lined up better. Our guys continue to play physical."
The last two playoff games haven't gone the Redskin way.
Union linebacker Colton King said, "Anger, you know, a little chip on our shoulder, you know, we got a lot to prove. You know, we got the most to lose. It's not them losing the [gold] ball. It's us redeeming ourselves."
It's hard to imagine that there will be a first between these two teams, considering how many times they've played in their long history, but there will be one made on Friday. The winner of Jenks and Union gets the first 6-A Division I gold ball. It's a division that Jenks and Union are pretty much responsible for making.
