A former Nowata man convicted for the assault and kidnapping of two Missouri women near Joplin in December 2011 has been sentenced again to four concurrent terms of 15 years.

According to the Joplin Globe newspaper, Johnny Davis, 35, was convicted in 2012 in a Newton County, Missouri court of kidnapping and assault, but the Missouri Court of Appeals overturned the conviction last year, saying Davis was deprived his right to a public trial when a judge denied his family access to the courtroom during jury selection.

At a new trial in a McDonald County, Missouri court in October 2014 Davis was again found guilty on all four counts.

The newspaper said Davis did not testify in either trial.

In 2011, Johnny Davis was arrested by Newton County Sheriff's deputies outside a Joplin hospital for abducting and assaulting two Joplin women. The two women told deputies, Davis abducted and beat them and took them across the state line into Oklahoma, before returning them to Missouri.
