Two first grade teachers in Tulsa are refusing to give more standardized tests and they've gone public with their reason why.

The teachers both work at Skelly Elementary and said testing, most of it on the district level, now consumes so much time and that they don't have time to teach.

Teachers Nikki Jones and Karen Hendren said the TPS testing schedule for first graders will take up 72 days this year, unless something changes.

"We have to stand up for the kids, they're young and they can't say anything and they need someone to stand up for them and say it's enough and we've had enough of it," Hendren said.

Tulsa Public Schools Response

The school district has not decided how it will handle the two teachers specifically, but Dr. Keith Ballard said that teachers opting out of testing was not an option.
