Former Oklahoma State basketball player Marcus Smart, whom now plays for the NBA's Boston Celtics, was rolled out on a stretcher during Friday night's game against the Indiana Pacers.
When Smart attempted to go up, he stepped uncomfortably on the foot of Pacers defender Lavoy Allen. Rolling his left ankle, Smart immediately grabbed his lower leg upon hitting the floor. Laying there in pain, his teammates rushed down court to check on him. Even though Smart was in pain, he still gave a thumbs up while being wheeled off the court.
The team said Smart will be sent to have an MRI later. Jeff Green of the Boston Celtics said, “It was very difficult. You hate to see a teammate go down, especially when he's playing well.” He also stated that Smart will get himself together quick, and he will work hard to get back.
Smart was the number six overall draft pick back in June. He was a powerhouse at OSU, and was determined to prove his worth to the Celtics. Smart was the top go to guard coming off the bench for Boston. As an NBA rookie Smart has currently been averaging 7.8 points a game, 2.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 21.5 minutes per game.
The Celtics finished the game with a 101-98 win over the Pacers.
