Oklahoma country star Reba McEntire's father passed away in Coalgate on Thursday night. The singer announced her father's death on her social media accounts Friday morning.
Clark McEntire was 86 years old. He leaves behind his wife Jacqueline, daughters Reba, Susie, Alice and son Pake. Clark McEntire had a stroke three years ago, the same week Reba ascended to the Country Music Hall of Fame.
"He had been in the nursing home for a while and we're very thankful he is not suffering anymore," Reba said Friday on Instagram.
"He was a born and bred cowboy through and through. He had been sick for 5 years. It makes total sense to me, he always told us kids never to run your horse to the barn. He was just taking his time to go on home."
Clark McEntire was a three-time world steer-roping champion and is in the Cowboy Hall of Fame. He taught the kids the value of hard work; their mama taught them to sing, McEntire told News On 6 anchor Terry Hood in 2011.
