Geoffrey Dee and Kay Duit both scored their first collegiate goals to lead the Tulsa men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Memphis on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 7-5-1 on the season and 3-2 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Tigers fell to 7-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the league.
“I thought we had some decent combination play in the first half,” coach Tom McIntosh said. “It was a nice goal by Geoffrey, nice finish, and that was off a combination. In the second half, truthfully we didn't play well at times. I was pleased with the last 10 minutes. It was probably the best 10 minutes of the game, and to see Kay get his first goal of his career too was great. Both of those guys earned it.”
Dee put the Golden Hurricane on the board with just 4:43 ticked off the clock as he scored from 20 yards out off a pass from Ray Saari. Nearly 84 minutes later Duit one-timed the ball into the back of the net from five yards out off a pass from Austin Neil.
Tulsa had a 10-6 lead in shots, including a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal, while Memphis had a 5-3 lead in corner kicks.
Abe Matamoros and Duit both had two shots, while six others had one attempt. Jake McGuire logged all 90 minutes in goal for three saves and a shutout.
Tulsa will return to action on Wednesday against SMU. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Hurricane Stadium.
