Changes are coming to how residents of Broken Arrow are charged for ambulance service. They'll now have to pay what insurance doesn't cover.

The City Council approved the changes Wednesday night.

For example, in the past if a patient's insurance paid a portion of a $1,200 ambulance bill, the city would waive the remaining balance.

That's no longer the case.

“This is a billing practice many medical providers already have in place, so it should be a familiar process for those who utilize medical services,” said Acting City Manager, Russell Gale.

The City Council hopes the changes will close a funding gap in the budget.

The new billing begins November 6th.
