A City of Tulsa water department worker accidentally cut a natural gas line while repairing a water main break Thursday morning.
The worker was operating a backhoe at an eight-inch water main break in the 12500 block of East 21st Street when he hit the natural gas line. The repair crew had to call ONG to shut off the gas line. The crew also called the Tulsa Fire Department but firefighters said the escaping natural gas did not pose a danger to the neighborhood.
The westbound lanes of 21st Street at 125th East Avenue are closed to traffic while the crew repairs the water line.
Farther west on 21st Street, city workers are fixing a 12-inch water line break in a parking lot at 101st East Avenue.
No word on when those two breaks will be repaired.
A third water line break in south Tulsa is also scheduled to be repaired Thursday. A six-inch water line in the 5900 block of South 99th East Avenue was reported late Wednesday. The break is in a residential neighborhood and is not expected to impact traffic.
