FBI Active Shooter Report Includes Two Green Country Incidents

The number of active shooter incidents are on the rise. That's according to a new report from the FBI.

The report looked at 160 active shooter incidents from 2000 to 2013 including two that happened here in Green Country.

Authorities found that the number of times a shooter has opened fire on a crowd has more than doubled over the past seven years compared to the previous seven years.

Agents looked at an incident in Sallisaw where 18-year-old Daniel Fears took his grandfather's shotgun and started shooting at people from his truck while driving down Highway 64 to Roland. He killed two people and injured eight.

They also looked at the Good Friday shootings of 2012 in Tulsa where Jacob England and Alvin Lee Watts killed three people and injured two others.

In the last seven years, the FBI has reported that on average 16 of the incidents are happening a year. That's compared to an average of six incidents in the previous seven years.

The report found that more than two-thirds of these incidents are happening in businesses and schools.
