Muskogee County authorities say the human remains found in a burned car on September 10, 2014 may be a man reported missing from Tulsa.
Richard Slader, investigator for the Muskogee County District Attorney's Office, told MuskogeeNow the remains are an adult male.
"I spoke with the lady from the ME yesterday. She's waiting on medical and dental records from one of the tribes," Slader told the web site.
Deputies were called to a soybean field north of Muskogee after firefighters found the remains in the back seat floorboard of the smoldering car.
Slader told MuskogeeNow the 2004 Cadillac Seville was reported stolen from a car lot in Oklahoma City two months ago. He says the state Medical Examiner's Office will compare the remains with dental and medical records from the missing man to see if there is a match.
Tulsa Police say they have been in contact with Muskogee County authorities about this case, but are waiting on the ME's office to identify the remains.
